Bread Machine Sourdough Discard Bread Recipe

This simple sourdough discard bread is one of my favorite recipes. Now made easier with a bread machine. Still so soft and fluffy!

JUMP TO RECIPE

We regularly make my Sourdough Discard Sandwich Bread. This recipe is so simple and quick. The texture of the bread is soft and fluffy. My littles enjoy it because the sourdough flavor is not as strong as my traditional Sourdough Sandwich Bread. We normally double the recipe because it goes so fast around here.

I made my simple sourdough discard bread even easier. With a bread machine, you just need to add a few ingredients, press a few buttons, and soon you’ll have delicious warm sourdough bread.

I’m amazed by the incredible power and flexibility of sourdough starter and the possibilities it offers. I love incorporating my sourdough discard into different recipes and finding clever ways to streamline the process while still being able to provide my family with delicious homemade food. If you do not have your own sourdough starter, you can follow my directions here.

Step-by-Step Instructions

This bread machine recipe is so simple you will have effortless bread in no time. Follow the step-by-step instructions below for flawless sourdough discard bread each time.

If your bread machine is older, like mine, the settings might be different. To know how to use your own machine, please refer to the manual for specific instructions.

1. Pour the water into the base of the bread machine pan.

2. Then add the sourdough discard.

3. Add flour, salt, sugar, and yeast.

4. Option one:

  • Press the dough or knead button on the bread machine.
  • Once it has finished kneading, remove the paddle attachment from the dough.
  • Allow to the bread rise for one hour.
  • Lightly spray the top with water. Press the bake button

Option two:

  • Press the quick bread button. This will allow the machine to knead, proof, and bake all on it’s own.

7. Remove and allow to cool. Then enjoy!

Tips & Storage

  • Use option one if you want to remove the paddle attachment before baking. This will keep you from having to remove it from the baked bread.
  • Lightly spray the top with water to encourage that golden crust.
  • Store in a bread bag or air tight container for 3-4 days.

I hope you enjoy making this simple bread machine sourdough discard bread. The soft and fluffy texture is hard to beat. We enjoy this bread as toast, sandwiches, or just slathered with butter.

Thanks so much. Looking forward to trying, as I have just had right shoulder replaced and don’t want to buy bread. This looks like a temporary alternative.
